It's as smart as it is sleek. This bangle has the brains to pinpoint your exact location and alert others when you’re in danger. Follow along as SciTech Now explores WiseWear and learns more about the fashionable statement piece receiving national attention from well-known fashion icons.
With beauty and brains to match its practicality and functionality, WiseWear offers numerous features like an activity tracker, a personal safety button, and custom vibrating notification feature. Speaking with founder of WiseWear, Dr. Jerry Wilmink, we learned the idea originated in his garage after his grandfather fell and broke his hip, sustaining fatal injuries. Distressed by the notion that his grandfather was unable to call for help at the time of his fall, Wilmink was determined to prevent other serious falls in seniors. Originally planning to develop a hearing aid that would alert the wearer to sit when at risk of falling, Wilmink came across the capability to transmit Bluetooth signals through metal, thus sparking the idea for WiseWear.
Now in its fourth year of business, WiseWear has been featured in various media sources across the world. The assurance of safety has drawn the attention of parents, as it provides an extra measure of security for children during daily activity. For seniors, it acts as help, sending text notifications to alert emergency contacts with the touch of a button.
Most recently, legendary fashion icon, Iris Apfel partnered with Wilmink to collaborate on a new design of bangles. As an ambassador of senior health, the emergency messaging feature is what drew Apfel to help launch the Iris Apfel collection. Design is just as important as functionality and for those wearing a WiseWear bangle, the discretion of the safety button is appreciated. Inconspicuous to anyone around, the bangle looks like a beautiful piece of jewelry, but to the wearer, it signifies peace of mind.
