Teaching upper elementary through high school students to code is the goal of a San Antonio program called Youth Code Jam.
The program helps get kids excited about computer science, builds their confidence in STEM skills and motivates them to aspire to tech-driven jobs of the future. While Youth Code Jam emphasizes reaching girls, ethnic minorities and gifted students, it also provides opportunities for teens with high-functioning autism and Asperger's.
The program has been recognized by President Obama's "Computer Science for All" initiative by setting a goal of reaching a thousand students in 2016.
