KLRN Public Television is proud to announce that Shari St. Clair is joining the team as the Director of News and Production, effective January 16, 2017. St. Clair will produce and anchor the daily News Updates as well as Texas Week with Rick Casey and will oversee the KLRN production team.
St. Clair is replacing Bruce Kates, who is leaving KLRN to pursue a career opportunity doing marketing and public relations for a local private organization. Kates founded the News program at KLRN in 2015 when he was promoted to Director of News and Production. He has been with the station since 2011 as the producer of Texas Week with Rick Casey, a weekly public affairs program.
St. Clair comes to KLRN with a wealth of experience in news and broadcast production. Her career has been spent in the broadcasting industry on both radio and television as a news producer, writer, anchor, investigative producer and special projects manager. In her early days, she served as a disc jockey at several legendary stations including KISS-FM in San Antonio and KBCO in Boulder, Colorado and later in her career served as a talk show host. Most recently, she worked at KSAT News as a special projects/investigative producer.
“KLRN has a solid legacy of community oriented, educational, and relevant TV in San Antonio and South Texas. I’m looking forward to continuing and growing KLRN’s commitment to local news as well as programs that go further in-depth with issues that are important to San Antonians,” said St. Clair. “It’s exciting to be part of a TV station that is growing as our city grows. As a native, this is such an honor. I watched KLRN as a kid, and now I can be part of a station that impacts a new generation.”
“Entering into the ‘news’ industry has been an interesting, fun, and successful endeavor for KLRN. We were lucky to have Bruce Kates to help us create the foundation on which to move forward,” said Arthur Emerson, President and CEO of KLRN. “While we are sad to see him go, we are excited about the new perspective and ideas the Shari St. Clair brings to us and we look forward to expanding our reach and opportunities in this realm.”
KLRN broadcasts one-minute News Updates weeknights from 7pm – 11pm on KLRN 9.1 and KLRN World 9.2. The KLRN Production Team produces three weekly programs: ARTS, SciTech Now and Texas Week with Rick Casey as well as numerous special projects, town halls, and/or documentaries.
