ARTIST BIO:
One could say Bobby Rivas and Bridgette Norris-Sanchez are products of their roots, each spending their formative years soaking in the zeitgeist of the turn of the millennium. While Norris-Sanchez was emulating her idols Gwen, Bjork, Jewel and Mariah, hairbrush-microphone in hand, Rivas donned a pair of checkered Vans while mounting a poster of ‘Dookie’ era Green Day in his childhood bedroom.
Fast forward a decade and some change, fate finds these two students of pop culture in a burgeoning romance. Bridgette is strumming a ukulele and humming a melody while they watch Tarantino movies, enter a laptop and some cheap microphones and the seeds of an eclectic rock and roll group are sewn.
The pair of half-hispanic creatives proudly adopt an "anything goes" approach to their recordings and live performances. Bridgette Norris-Sanchez's stage presence draws inspiration from punk luminary Jello Biafra as much as it does RuPaul. This compelling presence is bolstered by Rivas' collection of infectious guitar riffs and an ever thumping rhythm section.
The tracks on their debut LP 'Be Cool' offer kinetic punk rhythms with pent-up riot girl energy artfully juxtaposed with what the San Antonio Current has described as "an undercurrent of funk and disco." Add a touch of two-tone ska and a few Selena-isms for good measure and you have HoneyBunny's unapologetic and high-energy showcase of indie rock prowess.
