If you do decide to donate to a local charity, you might want to do a little homework on that charity first.
KSAT 12 News says it’s a good idea to make sure the charity is legitimate or just uses a name that sounds similar to a well-known non-profit organization.
It's also a good idea to go to the charity's website or to the Texas Attorney General's Office which posts guidelines for giving to charities.
