On Monday, October 11, KLRN will host a special evening of conversation and programming as we recognize National Coming Out Day in support of the LGBTQ+ community.
Join us on Facebook Live for Coming Out: A Conversation. This virtual panel discussion, led by moderator Michael Quintanilla, will explore the coming out experiences of local San Antonians and the differences and similarities that are found across generations.
After the discussion, beginning at 9:00 p.m., KLRN will air three compelling documentaries that focus on identity, visibility, and the American Queer Experience. Watch on-air (channel 9.1) or stream online at klrn.org/live or via the PBS app!
Coming Out: A Conversation (virtual panel discussion)
8:00 p.m. | Facebook Live
KLRN will join forces with members of the region’s LGBTQ+ community to produce an online panel discussion on the topics of these programs and on coming out. Staged by the historical background revealed in Cured, panelists from various generations will discuss their personal experiences and challenges, offering insight and advice to those who may not be as far along on their journey.

Becoming Johanna at 9 p.m.
When Johanna, a 16-year-old transgender Latina, begins her transition and gets kicked out of her home and school, she finds a foster family who loves her and a supportive school principal who helps her graduate and thrive.
Cured at 9:30 p.m.
This award-winning documentary chronicles the battle waged by a small group of activists who declared war against a formidable institution—and won a crucial victory in the modern movement for LGBTQ+ equality.
Cured takes viewers inside the David-versus-Goliath struggle that led the American Psychiatric Association to remove homosexuality from its manual of mental illnesses in 1973. While Cured is about science, medicine, and politics, it also explores the power of activism and the process of social change, offering lessons that are profoundly relevant to the present.
Two-Spirit Powwow at 10:30 p.m.
"Two-Spirit Powwow" shows how the San Francisco nonprofit Bay Area American Indian Two-Spirits (BAAITS) has hosted an annual queer-friendly powwow since 2012. This was the first and is the largest LGBTQI-hosted event of its kind in North America.
